Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.
